Non-Quit Studies

The Strasser team at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Nicotine Addiction (CIRNA) is recruiting smokers of at least 5 filtered, non-menthol cigarettes a day between the ages of 21-65 for a research study examining the effects of different levels of nicotine

Eligible participants will complete 9 sessions over 5 weeks and receive investigational low nicotine cigarettes for 30 days at no cost. Most sessions will take about 1-2 hours to complete. The study will begin with a remote Intake visit (completed by video call). During 5 in-person sessions at our Center, participants will provide breath samples, answer questionnaires, and smoke a cigarette in our Center’s well-ventilated smoking rooms. Participants will also be asked to provide a urine sample at 2 of the in-person sessions. During 3 remote sessions, participants will complete a brief check in with staff and smoke a cigarette at home. Over the course of the study, participants will be asked to collect their used cigarette filters in bags provided by the Center.

Sessions will be scheduled Monday through Friday during business hours.  Participants will be compensated for their time and effort for each session they complete. This is NOT a quit smoking program. Our research center will follow strict COVID-19 precautions and 4 of the 9 sessions will be completed remotely (i.e. by video call).
