The Penn Manual for Clinical Research has a Clinical Research Training site which provides a listing of required and optional training for clinical researchers at Penn.

Environmental Health & Radiation Safety (EHRS) Training

The Office of Environmental Health & Radiation Safety provides training programs are required by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) for all employees who work with hazardous substances (such as chemicals, human blood, blood products, fluids, and human tissue specimens). The office also provides training required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for all personnel using radioactive materials or radiation producing equipment at the University of Pennsylvania and affiliated institutions.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

IACUC provides training that personnel must take before they conduct research on animals. These courses ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The IRB provides required training for both members and staff involved in human subjects research.

Office of Clinical Research (OCR)

The Office of Clinical Research provides training for personnel engaged in human subjects research, and provides a Clinical Research Coordinator Certificate program and other training opportunities.

Office of Research Services

The Office of Research Services leads meetings that provide a venue for those involved in research administration at Penn to come together and discuss the issues surrounding a variety of topics related to research.

Sponsored Projects Compliance Certification Program

This Certification Program is for administrators who have sponsored projects responsibilities as defined by Sponsored Projects Policy No. 2140. It is designed as both an instructor-led and a web-based educational program.

University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR)

ULAR provides Training for administrators, researchers and their staffs on the humane, proper and efficient use of animals, the design of new and renovated animal housing areas, and interaction with the public on the topic of animal use in biomedical research.
