Bio statement

I am a PGY2 Internal Medicine resident. I had the privilege of living in Europe, US, and the Middle East.  I volunteered at a German refugee home which housed displaced Syrian refugees following the civil war. It served as my first exposure to a patient population with extremely poor access to medical care for contracted diseases and amputations sustained during their journey. My diverse experiences framed my training in a tertiary medical center in Qatar where I attended medical school. Expatriates and migrant workers, who come from low resource countries, formed a significant subset of the patient population. Due to the lack of preventative care from their home countries, they often presented with advanced disease pathologies. Responding to their diverse medical needs while navigating language and cultural barriers proved to be both challenging and extremely rewarding. During the pandemic, I participated in the Yale Global Health Pilot Project which offered a platform for health care, business, and law students from various international institutions to discuss how COVID-19 had affected different participating countries and their societal sectors. Our cohort prepared a case study and delivered an oral presentation on occupational health of migrant workers. This collaborative academic effort further fostered my interest in global health and exploring healthcare inequities.
I am currently part of the global health equities track and look forward to further overseas experience next year at Princess Marina Hospital in Botswana, focusing on capacity-building initiatives.
