Bio statement
Dr. Arumuganathan is from Harpers Ferry, WV, and completed her medical school and residency training at West Virginia University. While there, she completed the Global Health Track, served as a Chief Resident, and conducted telestroke research within rural critical access hospitals. Her rural background and training have helped her to build a foundation for working in low-resource environments. Currently, she is a Penn Global Emergency Medicine Fellow and an Instructor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Penn Medicine. Her work in Global Emergency Medicine involves creating curriculum and helping to build capacity to advance the specialty of Emergency Medicine worldwide.
Recent global health projects
One of Dr. Arumuganathan’s most recent projects includes teaching within the Certificate Program in Emergency Medicine (CPEM) in Pakistan – a program designed to equip physicians with fundamental emergency care knowledge and to improve the quality of emergency care in Pakistan. She is also assisting the development of a telemedicine initiative in rural Pakistan to improve healthcare access for remote populations.
